Colorado Rockies first baseman Ian Desmond was removed from Sunday's contest against the Cincinnati Reds after a pitch struck his left hand in the fourth inning, according to The Denver Post's Nick Groke.
The infielder was later seen wearing a brace on the injured hand, Groke adds.
Desmond was hit by a 93-mph fastball from Reds hurler Rookie Davis, who was then promptly replaced by Wandy Peralta. Colorado, meanwhile, replaced Desmond at first with pinch runner Jordan Patterson.
Colorado signed Desmond to a five-year, $70-million contract to be its starting first baseman this past offseason.
