Yankees' Holliday becomes 7th active player with 2,000 hits
New York Yankees designated hitter Matt Holliday has very quietly put together an excellent career, so it was only appropriate that he reached an important milestone in quiet fashion on Saturday.
The 14-year veteran recorded his 2,000th career hit on Saturday at Camden Yards with a line-drive single to right field off off Baltimore Orioles starter Kevin Gausman in the top of the first inning.

Holliday became the 281st player in history to reach the 2000-hit mark, and is now just one of seven active members of the exclusive club.

"I think you look back, and if you told me as a kid that I'd get 2,000 Major League hits, I'd have been pretty thrilled with that idea," Holliday told Bryan Hoch of MLB.com before Saturday's game.
Holliday, who joined the Yankees as a free agent this winter, recorded the majority of his hits (1,048) with the St. Louis Cardinals, his team for eight seasons from 2009-16. The 37-year-old notched his first career hit - an infield single off the Cardinals' Woody Williams - on April 18, 2004, while a member of the Colorado Rockies.
