Watch: Ichiro celebrates bobblehead day at Safeco Field with HR
Ichiro Suzuki picked a great night to hit his first home run of the season, doing so while the opposing team lauded him with a bobblehead.
Ichiro, who spent his first 11 full seasons in the MLB with the Seattle Mariners, made his first return to Safeco Field this week since signing with the Miami Marlins. And, in the ninth inning of the series finale game, Ichiro hit a first-pitch homer on what could be his last at-bat ever in Seattle.
To commemorate the outfielder, the club held a fan event by giving away a dual bobblehead, honoring both Ichiro's record-breaking 2004 season with the Mariners, as well as his 3,000th hit which he accomplished as a Marlin.
It's an interesting fan event, as opposing players are so rarely honored. However, the 43-year-old's impending retirement - which is far from certain - makes even the fans he's playing against feel whimsical. And, of course, the Ichiro homer did minimal damage, as the home team still pulled off the 10-5 victory.
