It keeps getting worse for CB Bucknor, or at least the teams playing in games he umpires.
During the sixth inning of Wednesday night's contest between the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves, Bryce Harper laced a sharply hit ball to left field that clearly fell short of being caught by Emilio Bonifacio. Unfortunately, the umpire tasked with calling the play was Bucknor, who ruled it a catch.
The call comes just a day after he blew a call in the ninth inning of the Nats-Braves game. With the bases loaded and two out in a one-run game, Chase d'Arnaud clearly whiffed at a Shawn Kelley offering, but Bucknor ruled it a foul tip - unjustly continuing the inning.
Consequently, Nats outfielder Jayson Werth went on a tirade about the quality of Bucknor's umpiring.
In this case, though, the umpiring crew came together to correct the missed call, ruling Harper safe at first base.
