An otherwise mundane Memorial Day Monday afternoon game between the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals became exceptionally heated the moment Hunter Strickland planted a 98-mph fastball onto the thigh of Bryce Harper in the eighth inning.

The result was a legitimate old-school benches-clearing brawl, as Harper charged the mound, tossed his helmet, and came out swinging at Strickland.

Here's a look at the five best moments from a brawl that featured flying fists and flowing hair.

5: The Uninterested

Buster Posey watched on as Harper cocked his helmet back in preparation to fire it at Strickland. The Giants catcher wanted no part in the ensuing brawl that took place.

4: The Disappointed

Posey wasn't the only member of the Giants to watch the fight from the sidelines, as injured left-hander Madison Bumgarner was relegated to the dugout while his teammates stormed the field. Bumgarner is still recovering from a shoulder injury and was wise to not get involved.

3: The Collision

Things get a little crazy when you're in the eye of the storm, and sometimes there's friendly fire - just ask Michael Morse and Jeff Samardzija.

2: The Freak Out

Strickland was understandably upset following the altercation with Harper and had to be dragged off the field by three teammates, including Hunter Pence, who got face-washed by the hurler on a couple occasions on his way to the showers.

1: The Pitch and the Punch

None of the extracurriculars would have taken place had it not been for Strickland plunking Harper to begin with.
