Twins' Sano foresaw, practiced 5-4-3 triple play
Miguel Sano's resume should include the following: masher of baseballs, turner of triple plays, and prophesier.
The hulking Minnesota Twins third baseman was the impetus behind a 5-4-3 triple play Thursday - the franchise's first in 11 years.
In more impressive fashion, Sano apparently foresaw the rare feat, saying he prepared for the play prior to the game.
"I kept thinking about it and saying it," Sano said through a translator, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
"I came in early today and practiced fielding ground balls down the line and touching the bag and throwing it to second. Once the situation came, I kept saying, '(Adalberto) Mejia, give me the right pitch.' And he did it."
"Rumor has it he called it," Twins manager Paul Molitor added, per ESPN. "I don't know if he was excited about the play or being prophetic."
Coincidentally, on top of being the first by the Twins in over a decade, it was also the 11th triple play in franchise history. In addition, it was the second one of the MLB season, as Baltimore also accomplished the feat.
