Watch: Judge sends ball into orbit with 495-foot HR
The defense does not rest when Aaron Judge steps up to the plate.
The superhuman New York Yankees rookie absolutely destroyed his 20th home run of the season Sunday, with the ball travelling an estimated 495 feet, according to Statcast. It is the longest home run of the year, surpassing Jake Lamb's 481-foot blast on May 29.
The ball left the park with an exit velocity of 118.6 mph as Judge now has five of the top six fastest-recorded hits of the season.
"I've never seen a ball hit like that in this stadium," teammate Gary Sanchez said, according to YES Network. "To me it was like 1,000 feet."
Judge's towering shot comes a day after the hulking slugger's 382-foot dinger was recorded at 121.1 mph, setting a new record for the hardest-hit home run ever measured by Statcast.
The Bronx Bombers have lived up to that nickname recently, scoring eight or more runs in five straight games for the first time since 1965, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Including Sunday's performance, the Yankees have combined for 55 runs scored and only nine runs against. They defeated the Baltimore Orioles 16-3 on Saturday and currently lead 14-3 in the top of the eighth inning.
