Yankees grab South Carolina ace Clarke Schmidt with 16th pick
The New York Yankees selected South Carolina right-hander Clarke Schmidt with the 16th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft on Monday night, plucking the 21-year-old ace who missed most of his junior season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
"I think if this is the worst thing that I have for the rest of my life, then I will be all right," Schmidt told SECCountry.com's Mike Wilson after having his UCL replaced two months ago. "I'm ready for the long road ahead. I’m ready to get after things. I'm going to treat the rehab process like every Friday night game and attack each day and try to get better to where I can get back out on the mound and compete again."
