Report: Rays sign No. 4 pick McKay for record amount

The Tampa Bay Rays have locked up their top pick from the 2017 draft, rewarding first baseman and pitcher Brendan McKay with a record signing bonus of $7,007,500 on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

The No. 4 overall selection receives the largest bonus given to a player under current rules. The Atlanta Braves gave pitcher Kyle Wright a record $7-million bonus less than two weeks ago.

McKay, a Louisville product, has been a top-level college pitcher and batter over three NCAA seasons. He went a combined 32-10 with a 2.23 ERA over 54 pitching appearances and 315 innings. No slouch with the bat, he hit .328 with 48 doubles, 28 home runs, and 132 RBIs over 189 games in three years.
