The Chicago White Sox sent their top two prospects to the Futures Game in Miami on Sunday, yet both Michael Kopech and Yoan Moncada suited up in opposing clubhouses for the All-Star precursor.
In a treat for White Sox fans, both Moncada and Kopech - both of whom rank in Baseball America's top 20 prospects, with Moncada leading the entire field - were set to face each other during the third inning. Both prospects came over to the White Sox in the offseason as key parts of the Chris Sale trade.
Kopech's pitches were so mesmerizing that the home-plate umpire tried to ring Moncada up after taking just his second strike - a 100-mph pitch at the edge of the zone. Kopech followed it up with a 101-mph heater that Moncada swung through.
