The continued struggles of the New York Yankees were not left behind in the season's first half.
In their first contest after the All-Star break, the Yankees blew a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning to the Boston Red Sox thanks to a fielding error by Ronald Torreyes and closer Aroldis Chapman's inability to control his pitches with the bases loaded.
Chapman - who didn't record an out in the inning - walked in the game-winning run during a 5-4 loss for the Yankees' MLB-leading 18th blown save of the season, which induced quite a comment from manager Joe Girardi during a postgame interview.
"If you want to win championships, you have to win those games," Girardi said, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
The Yankees have now lost seven of their last 10.
