Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore continues to add reinforcements, while Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn continues to sell off assets.
The two teams came together on a deal Sunday, with the Royals acquiring outfielder Melky Cabrera and cash from the White Sox for right-hander A.J. Puckett and left-hander Andre Davis.
Cabrera, who played for the Royals in 2011, is hitting .295/.336/.436 with 13 home runs and 17 doubles in 98 games with the White Sox this season. He's still owed roughly $5 million this year before becoming a free agent, though it's believed Chicago will cover half that salary.
The 32-year-old switch-hitter gives the Royals some additional offense from left field and at DH where Alex Gordon and Brandon Moss have struggled.
Puckett was the Royals' No. 13-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. The 22-year-old has a 3.90 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 98 strikeouts in 108 2/3 innings with Class-A Wilmington.
Davis, who isn't ranked within the Royals' top 30 prospects, went 5-4 with a 5.46 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and 87 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings with Class-A Lexington.
