After being hit in the face Saturday by a 95-mph fastball from New York Mets starter Jacob deGrom, Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger likely requires plastic surgery to treat lacerations on his face suffered in the incident, according to Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune.

Dutton adds that Haniger will be sent to the 10-day disabled list.

Following the game, Mariners skipper Scott Servais told reporters that Haniger suffered a severe laceration to his lip, though the 26-year-old outfielder avoided any facial fractures or damage to his teeth.

Haniger was struck in the face by deGrom's fastball in the second inning and he immediately fell to the ground clutching his face and was then removed from the game.

Speaking to reporters postgame, deGrom admitted the incident weighed heavily on him for the rest of his start.

"It's not easy to pitch after you do that," he told the New York Times' James Wagner.
