Watch: Belt leaves game after getting beaned by D-Backs' Banda

Kelley L Cox / USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt was removed from Friday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after taking a 79-mph curveball from Anthony Banda off his helmet in the sixth inning.

Belt dropped to his knees following the impact, though he remained alert and later stood under his own power as he was tended to by Giants skipper Bruce Bochy and head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner.

While Belt seemed to be responsive, the Giants played it safe and replaced him with pinch runner Joe Panik. Belt, of course, has a nasty history with concussions, most notably in 2014 when he was forced to miss nearly two months of the season due to lingering concussion symptoms stemming from a fielding incident during batting practice.

The 29-year-old first baseman is slashing .242/.355/.471 in 103 games with San Francisco this season.
