New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom was lifted from his start Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies after being struck in the right triceps by a line drive off the bat of Nick Williams - with an exit velocity of 99 mph - in the bottom of the seventh inning at Citizens Bank Park.
DeGrom managed to avoid a major injury, though. The Mets announced he was diagnosed only with a right triceps contusion, noting that X-rays on the 29-year-old came back negative. According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets expect deGrom to make his next start.
"We're very lucky," manager Terry Collins said.
Before departing, deGrom held the Phillies scoreless while striking out nine over 6 2/3 innings, helping the Mets to a 10-0 victory and snapping a personal two-start winless streak.
