Votto's streak ends at 20 games, falls short of tying MLB record

In an unforeseen turn of events, Joey Votto reached base only once on Wednesday and in the process, snapped a brilliant stretch.

The immensely talented Cincinnati Reds first baseman's streak of reaching base at least twice ended at 20 games, one shy of tying baseball legend Ted Williams who holds the record at 21 straight set in 1948.

Since 1900 Barry Bonds, Pete Rose, and Votto are the only others to have managed the feat in 20 games, per Elias Sports.

Votto, who finished 1-for-4, would have led off the top of the 10th inning but the Chicago Cubs managed to walk off the Reds on a passed ball.

Prior to his streak being snapped, Votto hit an incredible .435/.611/.742 with five home runs, 14 RBIs, 27 hits, and 26 walks in 62 at-bats. Entering Wednesday, the Canadian led baseball with a .448 OBP, 1.048 OPS and 18.7 walk percentage this season.
