Indians' Bruce relieved he was traded from 'least fun situation' with Mets

The Cleveland Indians secured the longest winning streak in American League history Wednesday afternoon after defeating the Detroit Tigers to earn their 21st consecutive victory.

Outfielder Jay Bruce has only been with the Indians for just over a month - most of his time coming during the streak - and he's delighted about the situation he's found himself in, considering what he left when he was traded from the New York Mets.

"I pretty much went from the least fun situation in baseball to the most fun," Bruce told Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News after the Indians' latest victory.

"That's no slight to the Mets at all. ... I just wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself."

Bruce was traded to the Indians on Aug. 9 while New York was struggling through injuries and toiling near the bottom of the National League East standings.

On Wednesday, Bruce was responsible for most of Cleveland's offensive output after delivering a three-run home run in the first inning.

"You can't ask for anything more," Bruce explained. "This team was awesome before I got here. I'm happy if I can help out where I can."

Since Bruce arrived in Cleveland, the Indians have lost just five times, with the 30-year-old contributing an .837 OPS across 27 games.

Bruce, a pending free agent, is hitting .256/.325/.515 with 34 home runs and 93 RBIs this season.
