The Boston Red Sox will send their ace to the mound Sunday should they be unable to clinch the American League East at Fenway Park on Saturday afternoon.
Manager John Farrell announced that Chris Sale will start against the Houston Astros in the regular-season finale should the Red Sox lose Saturday and the New York Yankees win, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com.
Boston's magic number remains at one after dropping the first two games of its four-game set with the Houston Astros.
Should the Red Sox clinch the division Saturday, Farrell said that Sale will be scratched from the start in order to have him ready for Game 1 of the ALDS on Thursday.
