Report: Woman suing Cabrera as part of child-support lawsuit

Miguel Cabrera's horrible year appears to be continuing even after the end of his baseball season.

The Detroit Tigers first baseman is being sued by a Florida woman in a child-support lawsuit which could cost him more than $100,000 a month, reports Tony Paul of the Detroit News.

Belkis Mariela Rodriguez, a 35-year-old Orlando resident, has alleged that Cabrera cut child-support payments after fathering two children with her, according to court records.

The 34-year-old Cabrera apparently wants paternity tests on the two children and is accusing Rodriguez of extortion. He's paying her $6,200 per month and helped her buy a $1-million home earlier this year, according to the report.

Rodriguez has custody of the two children, while Cabrera - who has three children with his wife of 15 years - has visitation rights and is named as the father on their birth certificates.

Cabrera suffered through the worst offensive season of his career, hitting .249/.329/.399 with 16 home runs and 60 RBIs in 130 games for the last-place Tigers and dealt with back issues for most of the year.
