With the offseason now underway, theScore's MLB editors rank the top 20 free-agent position players available this winter.

1. J.D. Martinez, OF

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
119 26 45 104 .303/.376/.690 3.8

Martinez headlines this year's free-agent class due to his ability to bolster the middle of any lineup. The 30-year-old corner outfielder slugged a career-high 45 homers and a 1.066 OPS across 119 games split between the Tigers and Diamondbacks in 2017. Over the past four seasons, Martinez ranks third in OPS+ behind Mike Trout and Giancarlo Stanton.

Potential Fits: D-Backs, Giants, Red Sox, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mariners, Rangers, Nationals, Rockies, Brewers, Indians

2. Eric Hosmer, 1B

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
162 31 25 94 .318/.385/.498 2.5

Hosmer is coming off the best season of his seven-year tenure with the Royals, as he reached career highs in games played, runs, hits, home runs, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging. The three-time Gold Glove winner also had the third-highest OPS among AL first baseman, and at 28 years old is among the youngest of the top free agents.

Potential Fits: Royals, Mariners, Red Sox, Indians, Mets, Rangers, Rockies, Angels

3. Lorenzo Cain, OF*

*Signed 5-year, $80M deal with Brewers

GP HR RBI SB AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
155 15 49 26 .300/.363/.440 4.1

Teams looking for a speedy outfielder who's capable of playing all three positions and can hit near the top of the order should target Cain. Two years after finishing in the top three of AL MVP voting, the 31-year-old posted the second-highest OPS of his career in 2017, while also swiping 26 bases.

4. Carlos Santana, 1B*

*Signed 3-year, $60M deal with Phillies

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
154 37 23 79 .259/.363/.455 3.2

Santana spent the bulk of last season at first base, but does have some defensive versatility as he also made seven appearances in right field. The 31-year-old switch-hitter has reached the 20-homer plateau in four of the last five seasons, and has cut down his strikeouts in each of the past four years. Santana is one of the more durable players in the majors, having missed just 64 games over the last seven seasons.

5. Jay Bruce, OF*

*Signed 3-year, $39M deal with Mets

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
146 29 36 101 .254/.324/.508 2.7

Bruce has been a consistent power threat for his entire career. The 30-year-old smacked a combined 69 homers and 56 doubles over the past two seasons, and has shown an ability to remain consistent at the plate despite appearing for three different teams in two different leagues. Bruce certainly comes with issues defensively in right field, and does strike out a lot, but he's the best source of power outside of Martinez.

6. Mike Moustakas, 3B

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
148 24 38 85 .272/.314/.521 2.2

Moustakas was an All-Star for the second time this season and reached career highs in home runs (38) and OPS (.835). While the 29-year-old's power saw an extreme spike, he doesn't possess a strong ability to get on base; he posted a .314 OBP thanks to just 34 walks in 598 plate appearances, while his strikeout percentage (15.7) reached its highest point since 2012.

Potential Fits: Royals, Angels, Yankees, Braves, Mets, Phillies, Giants, Rangers, Pirates

7. Eduardo Nunez, IF

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
114 33 12 58 .313/.341/.460 2.2

Nunez's defensive versatility will likely make him an attractive piece for a number of teams in free agency. While he doesn't play any one position overly well, he's still capable of manning second base, shortstop, third base, and the corner outfield spots. The 30-year-old, who's coming off a knee injury, hit 28 homers, 57 doubles, and swiped 64 bases over the last two seasons.

Potential Fits: Angels, Brewers, Yankees, Blue Jays, Red Sox, D-Backs, Mets, Royals, Reds, Pirates, Braves

8. Jonathan Lucroy, C

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
123 21 6 40 .265/.345/.371 1.2

Lucroy endured a down season split between Texas and Colorado, though he looked much better after a trade to the Rockies. The two-time All-Star is the best catcher available this winter, and offers double-digit home run power coupled with a veteran presence behind the plate.

Potential Fits: Rockies, Nationals, D-Backs, Orioles, Angels

9. Zack Cozart, SS*

*Signed 3-year, $38M deal with Angels

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
122 24 24 63 .297/.385/.548 5.0

Cozart was an All-Star for the first time in 2017 and finished third in WAR among shortstops. He reached career highs in home runs, average, on-base percentage, and slugging. While Cozart was exceptional offensively, he's had trouble staying healthy. The 32-year-old missed 40 games this season, and has missed 190 games due to injuries over the last three years.

10. Todd Frazier, 3B

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
147 19 27 79 .213/.344.428 3.0

Frazier provides plenty of pop and a solid ability to get on base, but hits for a low average and strikes out a lot. Still, if it's power you need, Frazier is a solid option. The 31-year-old hit 27 homers in 147 games this season, though that was his lowest mark since 2013.

Potential Fits: Angels, Yankees, Braves, Mets, Phillies, Giants, Rangers, Pirates

11. Neil Walker, 2B

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
111 21 14 49 .265/.362/.439 2.1

Walker has developed into a highly consistent second baseman with power and on-base skills. The 32-year-old has averaged 16 homers, 25 doubles, and a .273/.342/.439 slash line over the last eight seasons. The knock on Walker of late has been his ability to stay on the field; he's missed 100 games over the last two seasons due to injuries.

Potential Fits: Angels, Brewers, Blue Jays, D-Backs, Mets, Marlins

12. Carlos Gonzalez, OF

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
136 34 14 57 .262/.339/.423 -0.2

Gonzalez had a down season in 2017, but that could make him a nice buy-low candidate for the team that signs him. CarGo is a three-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winner who offers 20-plus homer power. The 32-year-old has spent the last nine years in Colorado, so his numbers have likely benefited from Coors Field.

Potential Fits: Mariners, Blue Jays, Rangers, Indians, Athletics, Giants, Mets, D-Backs, Royals

13. Carlos Gomez, OF

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
105 23 17 51 .255/.340/.462 2.3

Gomez represents the best speed and power combination of any outfielder available not named Lorenzo Cain. The 31-year-old is capable of playing all three outfield positions and is coming off a sixth straight season with double digits in both home runs and stolen bases.

Potential Fits: Blue Jays, D-Backs, Rays, Rangers, Indians, Athletics, Giants, Mets, Mariners, Royals

14. Logan Morrison, 1B

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
149 22 38 85 .246/.353/.516 3.3

Morrison hit the second-most home runs among first baseman in the majors during his breakout 2017 season. The left-handed batter's 38 homers, 85 RBIs, 81 walks, 149 strikeouts, and .868 OPS were all career highs.

Potential Fits: Royals, Mariners, Red Sox, Indians, Mets, Angels, Rays

15. Mitch Moreland, 1B*

*Signed 2-year, $13M deal with Red Sox

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
149 34 22 79 .246/.326/.443 0.9

Moreland proved to be exceptional value after signing a one-year, $5.5-million deal with Boston last winter. The 32-year-old finished second on the team in doubles, and third in homers and OPS, while playing strong defense at first base. Moreland offers power from the left side of the plate, but is more of a platoon option as he slugged just .342 against southpaws this season.

16. Brandon Phillips, 2B

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
114 34 13 60 .285/.319/.416 1.6

You won't find a more consistent player than Phillips. The 36-year-old has posted at least a .723 OPS in each of the last three seasons while reaching double digits in both home runs and stolen bases. The veteran is still capable of playing Gold Glove-caliber defense at second base, as well.

Potential Fits: Angels, Brewers, Marlins, Blue Jays

17. Matt Holliday, OF/DH

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
105 18 19 64 .231/.316/.432 -0.1

Holliday proved over a strong first half of 2017 that he can still be a capable DH, but injuries remain the biggest issue. The 37-year-old smashed 15 home runs to go along with an .877 OPS over the first 68 games, but was limited to just 37 appearances following the All-Star break, hitting just four homers with a .525 OPS. Holliday will certainly be a fit for teams looking for right-handed power on a short-term deal.

Potential Fits: Twins, Astros, Mariners, Rays, Indians, Athletics

18. Jose Bautista, OF

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
157 27 23 65 .203/.308/.366 -0.5

For the first time since 2008, Bautista will be playing for somewhere other than Toronto in 2018. The six-time All-Star is coming off the worst season of his Blue Jays career, in which he barely hit over the Mendoza Line. Father Time appears to be catching up with the 37-year-old, but he still possesses some power in that bat, and could be worth taking a chance on.

Potential Fits: Astros, Yankees, Mariners, Rays, Twins, Rangers, Indians

19. Yunel Escobar, 3B

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
89 20 7 31 .274/.333/.397 1.0

Teams needing a steady veteran presence at third base should look to Escobar. The 34-year-old has had issues staying on the field over the last few years - appearing in just 89 games in 2017 - but he's a capable defender and solid on-base guy. Over the last three seasons, Escobar hit .300/.357/.402 with 21 home runs and 73 doubles in 360 games.

Potential Fits: Angels, Marlins, Brewers, Giants, Pirates, Braves, White Sox

20. Curtis Granderson, OF*

*Signed 1-year, $5M deal with Blue Jays

GP 2B HR RBI AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
147 24 26 64 .212/.323/.452 2.1

Granderson hopes to play a 15th MLB season, and there should be a market for the veteran who can give you defense at all three outfield positions. The 36-year-old has averaged 26 homers and 27 doubles over the last four seasons while missing just 39 games. While it's not likely Granderson will land a starting role with a contender, he could be a nice supplemental piece.
