Diehard Mets fan Jerry Seinfeld caught at Game 1 cheering for Dodgers
Despite his longtime allegiance to the New York Mets, Jerry Seinfeld apparently had no qualms cheering on the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine on Tuesday in Game 1 of the World Series.
"I was 11 or 12 years old. We had a huge orange La-Z-Boy recliner downstairs in my house on Long Island, and I just started watching the Mets," Seinfeld told ESPN in 2014. "I fell in love with them instantly. I never liked the American League. The Yankees weren't my kind of team. I loved the Mets, the players they had, and the way they played. I still love them."
Still, Seinfeld - who rocked a hat commemorating the Mets' fruitless World Series run in 2015 - was among the 54,253 fans who lost their minds when Justin Turner smacked a go-ahead, two-run homer off Houston Astros ace Dallas Keuchel in the sixth inning.
Perhaps Seinfeld was merely trying to familiarize himself to Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger, who famously said during a June appearance on SportsCentre that he doesn't "really know what (Seinfeld) does."
"I'm not going to lie to you, I know the name, but I couldn't put a face to the name," Bellinger said. "I don't really know what he does, man. I'm sorry."
