Girardi's brother: 'He's comfortable enough if he never works again'

Joe Girardi and the New York Yankees are busy determining if the former will continue manning the team's dugout next season, though Girardi isn't exactly pressured to take the job.

The 53-year-old's contract with the Bronx Bombers will expire at the end of the season, and Girardi's status for 2018 has been up in the air following his club's Game 7 loss to the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series. Girardi has admitted his immediate family's input will weigh heavily into his decision to come back, though if they give him the green light, don't expect the financial details to sway his motivation.

“He’s very excited about this team,” Girardi's older brother George told Mike Mazzeo of the Daily News on Wednesday. "He hasn't discussed his situation much with me, but I know Joe thinks this Yankees team has a lot of talent, and a chance to possibly win at least a couple World Series titles.

"It's not about the money for Joe. Whether the Yankees want him back or not, I know he wants to manage, but he would never make it about money. He's comfortable enough if he never works again."

According to FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman - whose contract is also set to expire soon - met with Girardi at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday and will meet again Thursday to continue negotiations.

Girardi has managed the Yankees for 10 consecutive seasons and led the club to a World Series title in 2009 in only his second season at the helm. He owns a 910-710 managerial record during his tenure in New York.
