3 players who were robbed of Silver Slugger Awards

Pobody's nerfect, and sometimes, voters get it wrong.

While most of the 2017 Silver Slugger Award winners were no-brainers, at least three deserving candidates were overlooked despite having better numbers across the board.

Mike Trout over George Springer

Name HR AVG/OBP/SLG
Trout 33 .306/.442/.629
Springer 34 .283/.367/.522

The only reason Springer hit more homers than Trout is because he played 26 more games. Just like in the MVP race, Trout is being severely underrated. His finger injury sidelined him for nearly two months, and didn't hinder his play upon returning.

Trout posted career highs in OPS and OBP, and he lost the Silver Slugger despite slugging more than 100 points better than Springer. In fact, only one qualified hitter recorded a better slugging percentage: Giancarlo Stanton. Trout losing can only be attributed to a growing sense that baseball is taking his greatness for granted.

Joey Votto over Paul Goldschmidt

Name HR AVG/OBP/SLG
Votto 36 .320/.454/.578
Goldschmidt 36 .297/.404/.563

Goldschmidt had a great season, but Votto was the better pure hitter in nearly every way. The 34-year-old Canadian matched Goldschmidt in long balls, but also showcased his superiority at getting on base. No one had a higher OBP than Votto in 2017, which is largely thanks to his 19 percent walk rate.

No power hitter makes the kind of contact Votto does, either. He struck out in only 11.7 percent of his plate appearances. As close as it appears, Votto had the edge and should have taken home the gold silver.

Zack Cozart over Corey Seager

Name HR AVG/OBP/SLG
Cozart 24 .297/.385/.548
Seager 22 .295/.375/.479

If we're talking about who is the better hitter to build a franchise around, then the answer is unequivocally Seager. But, if it's about who built a more impressive resume in 2017, it has to be the donkey enthusiast himself, Cozart.

Not much went right for the Reds, but the Votto and Cozart bromance was something to behold, and they both produced on the field. Like Trout, Cozart may be getting a raw deal because an injury sidelined him for an extended period of time. Cozart tallied career highs in every offensive category while Seager wasn't as good as he was a year prior.

In addition to making his first All-Star appearance and being gifted a donkey, Cozart deserved this to make one heck of a trifecta.
