Report: Marlins, Cardinals have discussed Stanton trade concepts
Giancarlo Stanton reportedly does not want a trade to the St. Louis Cardinals, but that apparently isn't stopping the team from negotiating with the Miami Marlins.
The Cardinals and Marlins discussed trade concepts involving the 28-year-old home-run king on Wednesday at the GM meetings in Orlando, reports Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
St. Louis is "determined" in its interest for Stanton, as well as other players on the Marlins roster, a source told Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The Cardinals appear to be one of the busier teams at the GM meetings, also allegedly discussing closer Alex Colome with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Stanton has been the biggest topic of the offseason, with the Marlins discussing the $295-million man with at least eight teams as of Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald's Clark Spencer, who reports six are deemed "serious bidders."
In 2017, Stanton belted a major league-leading 59 home runs and drove in 132. His .631 slugging percentage and 1.007 OPS were both career highs.
He remains under contract for another 10 seasons and holds a full no-trade clause.
