A pair of intriguing players from the St. Louis Cardinals have surfaced in trade discussions with the Miami Marlins for Giancarlo Stanton as the club has shown interest in outfielder Jose Martinez and right-handed starter Michael Wacha, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

The Marlins, Cardinals, and San Francisco Giants recently agreed to separate framework for a deal, though for St. Louis, it's unclear if Martinez and Wacha are part of it. It has been reported that 22-year-old pitching prospect Sandy Alcantara, currently ranked as the Cardinals' ninth-best prospect on MLB.com, is the centerpiece of such a proposal.

The Giants and Cardinals are also reportedly willing to absorb a large portion of the $295 million remaining on Stanton's long-term deal, which includes an opt out following the 2020 season.

One significant road block in trade discussions involving the Cardinals is Stanton's full no-trade clause as he reportedly wouldn't accept a deal to St. Louis and is more likely to approve a trade to San Francisco. The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be of most interest to Stanton, but both sides have yet to engage in serious trade talk in large part due to the Dodgers' financial predicament.
