When the Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in November to win their first title in franchise history, it was widely celebrated, but not everyone was happy about the outcome.

Vegas sports books lost $11.4 million on baseball in November, largely due to the Astros' 5-1 victory over the Dodgers in Game 7 of the World Series and futures bets on the Astros winning the World Series placed throughout the year, according to ESPN's David Purdum, citing the Nevada Gaming Control.

Their previous largest loss of $6.2 million in baseball came in November 1999, when the New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves to win the World Series.

Despite the record loss, the books were still able to remain open, according to Purdum, thanks to success in football and basketball.

Overall, the books won a net of $213.6 million in 2017, not counting December's numbers, which have yet to be revealed - their fourth most lucrative year.
