Yankees' Frazier, Andujar drawing plenty of trade interest

A pair of New York Yankees prospects continue to draw interest as general manager Brian Cashman speaks to teams regarding potential trades.

The Yankees are looking to add another starter, and it could be one of either outfielder Clint Frazier or infielder Miguel Andujar who are on the move, as Cashman acknowledges those are two of the names repeatedly brought up by rival clubs.

"He's a very exciting talent," Cashman said of Andujar on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. "One that's being insisted upon, it seems like, in every conversation I'm having with anything that's high-end out there. There's a recognition of Clint Frazier and Miguel Andujar as the next level of guys right below (top prospect) Gleyber Torres and it's understandable why, with what these guys have done coming through our system."

Frazier was the No. 24 prospect in baseball heading into last season, according to MLB.com. The 23-year-old hit .231/.268/.448 with four home runs and nine doubles in 39 games with the Yankees. After adding Giancarlo Stanton, New York is loaded with outfielders - especially with Jacoby Ellsbury unwilling to waive his no-trade clause - making Frazier potentially expendable.

Just because there is a surplus of outfielders, though, doesn't mean Cashman is forced to deal from a position of strength.

"If we do make a trade, we're going to be very careful making that decision," Cashman said. "The control years of these players, even if they're kind of blocked here today as Clint Frazier happens to be, it doesn't mean they'll be blocked as we move forward. A lot of things can happen, whether it's injuries or another trade that can free something up elsewhere."

Andujar, meanwhile, is the Yankees No. 5 prospect per MLB.com and currently projects to play a major role in the big-league roster on Opening Day. The team traded away Starlin Castro and Chase Headley, and lost Todd Frazier to free agency this offseason, opening a spot at both third and second base, which Andujar is likely to fill should he not be dealt.
