Cobb says he's talked seriously with 15 teams
The market for Alex Cobb certainly appears to be robust.
Despite almost the entire free-agent class having yet to sign, Cobb indicated there's been plenty of interest in him, adding that he's had serious conversations with 15 clubs and hasn't eliminated any.
"Everywhere is an option for me at this point," he said, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Cobb sits in the second tier of free-agent starters with Lance Lynn, behind Yu Darvish and Jake Arrieta. So far, the Baltimore Orioles, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, and Milwaukee Brewers are all believed to have expressed interest.
It was reported in December that he was seeking a contract worth $20 million annually, and earlier this month he was said to have rejected a three-year, $42-million offer from the Cubs.
Cobb, who's attached to draft-pick compensation after rejecting a qualifying offer from the Tampa Bay Rays, went 12-10 with a 3.66 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 128 strikeouts last season over a career-high 179 1/3 innings. He's thrown more than 150 innings just twice in his six-year career, and underwent Tommy John surgery in 2015.
