Report: Morrison eyeing Royals, also in touch with BoSox
The Kansas City Royals have reportedly made an offer to retain free-agent first baseman Eric Hosmer, but if things don't work out, a different free agent appears to be interested in taking the spot.
A couple of MLB executives told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick they think Kansas City native Logan Morrison has his eye on the Royals as a landing spot if Hosmer doesn't return.
Morrison is also reportedly staying in touch with the Boston Red Sox in case they can't land fellow free agent J.D. Martinez, reports Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston.
The 30-year-old Morrison, who attended Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City before becoming a pro, said in November that playing for the Royals "would be a dream come true."
With the Royals lacking experience at first base - Cheslor Cuthbert is projected to start there, according to Roster Resource - adding an eight-year veteran such as Morrison would make sense.
In 2017, Morrison posted career highs in games played (149), home runs (38), RBIs (85), and OPS (.868) for the Tampa Bay Rays.
