Report: Padres agree to 8-year deal with Hosmer
After seven years and one World Series title, Eric Hosmer is apparently moving on from the Kansas City Royals.
The San Diego Padres have agreed to an eight-year deal with the first baseman, a source told MLB Network's Jon Morosi. He can reportedly opt out after five years.
Hosmer's deal, which is pending a physical, is apparently front-loaded and could be worth $144 million if he spends the entire eight years with San Diego, sources told Bleacher Report's Scott Miller.
Oh, and Hosmer gets a $5 million signing bonus. So that + 5 years at $20 mil per + 3 years at $13 mil per. $144 million total, AAV $18 mil. Sources.

That’s $144 million total guaranteed Hosmer if he stays all 8 years, largest deal in #Padres history.

Hosmer has been linked to the Padres for much of the offseason, with the Royals also reportedly trying to re-sign the one-time All-Star. He was leaning toward San Diego all along, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, and once the team offered eight years, the deal was sealed.
He'd join a rebuilding team that also boasts 2013 Rookie of the Year Wil Myers and budding superstar Manuel Margot in its organization. The Padres also possess one of baseball's top farm systems.
The 28-year-old Hosmer owns a career slash line of .284/.342/.439 with 127 home runs and 566 RBIs, and has won four Gold Gloves.
