Angels sign Chris Young to 1-year contract
The Los Angeles Angels have brought in an outfield reinforcement.
The team signed Chris Young to a one-year contract, the Angels announced Sunday. The contract is reportedly worth $2 million plus incentives, according to the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher.
"He fits our offensive profile of high plate discipline," Angels GM Billy Eppler told Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times. "He hits left-handers particularly well."
Young has spent the last two seasons as a spare outfielder with the Boston Red Sox, appearing in 166 games and hitting .253/.336/.437 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs.
With the Angels boasting a starting outfield trio of Mike Trout, Justin Upton, and Kole Calhoun, Young's role is likely to be similar to the one he held in Boston. The 34-year-old has played all three outfield positions over his 12-year career, so he provides extra flexibility off the bench.
