Judge 'leaning toward not doing' Home Run Derby in 2018
Fans attending All-Star Weekend at Nationals Park in July might not get to see Aaron Judge do what he's best known for: Hitting a lot of home runs.
Judge said he is "leaning toward not doing" the Home Run Derby during the All-Star festivities set to take place in Washington, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
The 25-year-old New York Yankees slugger won the 2017 derby, but he told Hoch he'll be "one and done" in the competition.
Judge hit 47 home runs during last season's competition to take home the title, which included a 23-homer first round - the third-best round in derby history.
"I had no pressure going into it. I'm a rookie," Judge said after winning the event. "This is my first time doing it. For me, I've got no expectations. I'm just going to go in there and have some fun and see what we can do tonight. It was a blast. I enjoyed every minute of it - watching the other guys swing, coming here early and talking to the media. Everything about today was fantastic."
Judge led the American League in home runs last season with 52, seven behind new teammate Giancarlo Stanton, who led the majors with 59. Stanton, a Home Run Derby champion in his own right, lost in the first round of last year's competition.
