D-Backs' Bradley wants bullpen cart to have 'bumping stereo'
The Arizona Diamondbacks became the first team to announce they would use a bullpen cart for the upcoming 2018 season, and the relievers are already dreaming of getting it suped-up.
"I want a bumping stereo," Archie Bradley told Ted Berg of For The Win. "I need some bass, I need some kickers in there. Some 12-inch subwoofers. I want this thing bumping. We could do some lights underneath. We'll have fun."
While Bradley - the team's presumptive closer after Fernando Rodney departed via free agency - is looking forward to having fun with the contraption, other relievers are less sure.
"It'll definitely be weird," left-hander Andrew Chafin added. "I've never done it ... I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and give it a shot. But if it doesn't work for me, I won't use it."
Newcomer Brad Boxberger echoed a similar sentiment, saying "it's an old thing, but it's new to us."
While Chafin wasn't sure whether it would work in his preparations for coming into the game, he seemed happy to volunteer as the bullpen's resident driver. "If I ain't going out to pitch, I'll drive somebody out there. I'll drift it on the way back in, too. But there's no way in heck they'll let me do that. I'm going to try."
"I would love that," Bradley said, agreeing with his teammate. "On my off-days, I'll be the designated driver for that thing."
Last year, the Diamondbacks' relief corps ranked fifth in the majors in ERA, behind the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
