Report: Yankees, Red Sox nearing agreement on 2019 regular-season series in London
Major League Baseball is taking its biggest rivalry across the pond.
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are reportedly nearing an agreement to play a two-game regular-season series at London's Olympic Stadium from June 29-30 in 2019, according to the Associated Press.
Playing more international regular-season games was agreed upon as part of the new collective bargaining agreement that will serve through 2021. Each player would receive $60,000 for their participation.
"Playing major-league games abroad is critically important to growing the game internationally, and we are very pleased that the parties were able to agree on a very comprehensive international play plan in bargaining,'' MLB chief legal officer Dan Halem told the Associated Press last July.
The Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins will play in Puerto Rico in April, while the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres will play a series in Mexico in May.
