All 30 teams won't be in action on Opening Day after all.
The Cincinnati Reds announced that Thursday's season opener at Great American Ball Park against the Washington Nationals has been postponed to Friday, March 30 due to "impending inclement weather" in the Cincinnati area.
The rescheduled opener will still start at 4:10 p.m. ET and the pitching matchup - Cincinnati's Homer Bailey versus Washington's Max Scherzer - remains unchanged.
All of Cincinnati's traditional pregame Opening Day festivities will also be moved from Thursday afternoon to Friday, the Reds announced.
It's long been tradition for the city of Cincinnati - home to the first professional baseball franchise - to host Opening Day. This year's rainout marks the first time weather has forced the Reds to move Opening Day since 1966, according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Their opener in 1996 was also rescheduled after umpire John McSherry collapsed and died on the field.
Before the Reds-Nationals game was moved from Thursday to Friday, all 30 teams had been set to kick off the 2018 season on the same day for the first time in 50 years.
