Jose Bautista's waning career might have some more life in it yet.

Bautista, who was released by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, is reportedly garnering interest from the New York Mets, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.

It's not clear how serious the Mets' interest in the six-time All-Star might be.

Following a dismal 2017 campaign, Bautista was searching for work until three weeks after this season began, when he inked a deal in Atlanta. He moved to third base while with the Braves, a position he hadn't played with any regularity since 2010, but struggled to a .143/.250/.343 slash line with just two home runs over 12 games before getting cut.

Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos - who has a close relationship with Bautista from their many years together in Toronto - said Sunday that the 37-year-old has a "standing offer" to return to the organization's Triple-A affiliate if he can't find work elsewhere.

A move to New York would likely allow Bautista to shift back to the outfield, a defensive position he's more familiar with having starred as a right fielder with the Blue Jays for close to a decade. The Mets are also suffering from injuries to their outfield corps, with Yoenis Cespedes sidelined by a hip flexor and Juan Lagares likely done for the year with a toe injury. They also have limited options at the minor-league level, so Bautista could provide them with added depth either in Triple-A or at the big-league level.

Bautista, a two-time winner of the Hank Aaron Award, owns a career slash line of .249/.361/.480 with 333 home runs over parts of 15 major-league seasons with six teams.
