Deven Marrero hit his first home run of the 2018 season Saturday night. That is, of course, until he actually didn't.
The Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman hit a three-run homer against the Los Angeles Dodgers that ended up getting reviewed. After a delay, Marrero was ruled to have passed teammate Alex Avila while rounding first base as Avila waited cautiously to tag up. Even though the ball cleared the wall, Marrero was ruled out and the play was scored as a two-run single. Marrero wound up being the second out of the inning.
It's a rare occurrence that last happened when Miami Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto did the exact same thing back in 2016, according to Retrosheet.
That's one memorable single.
