Report: Mets tell teams they won't pursue catchers 'for the time being'
The New York Mets are going to stick with what they have behind the plate for at least the immediate future.
Despite losing catchers Travis d'Arnaud (Tommy John surgery) and Kevin Plawecki (broken left hand) to injuries, the Mets have been telling teams they're going to "stay internal for the time being," multiple sources told Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News.
Mets manager Mickey Callaway appears to be happy with the combination of 33-year-old veteran Jose Lobaton and rookie Tomas Nido behind the dish.
"They've done a great job behind the plate calling the game, controlling the game, they haven't missed a beat there," Callaway explained. "They've done a great job of preparing. I'm happy with where we're at.
"As times goes on we'll see how they hold up. Lobaton hasn't played this much in a long time, he's always been a part-time catcher and we're gonna lean on him to play more than he has in the past so we'll have to see moving forward."
After New York lost both d'Arnaud and Plawecki to injuries, there was speculation they'd try and trade for a catcher, with Miami Marlins backstop J.T. Realmuto as a potential target.

It appears talks for Realmuto may have been called off.
Lobaton and Nido haven't provided the Mets with much offense since taking over plate duties (they're a combined 2-for-16 this season), but that's not bothering Callaway or the first-place Mets, who've driven in 80 runs - good for fourth in the National League.
"I think that both of these guys are going to go out there and give us the best at-bats they possibly can. Their main focus is catching the pitchers and calling a good game and keeping our pitchers where they should be and that's the way it should be in my opinion," Callaway said. "Obviously we've been pinch-hitting for those guys late so they're gonna go out there and give it the best they can."
