Byron Buxton's toe was causing him some pain this week, and the solution might have hurt even more.

The Minnesota Twins outfielder, who's been on the disabled list for more than a week due to migraines, fouled a ball off his left foot during a rehab game on Sunday, leaving him with a toe injury. With his left big toe swelling up, medical professionals had to drill directly into his left big toenail, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.

As painful as it sounds, the procedure was designed to relieve pressure on his toe. It appeared to help, as Buxton was able to hit off a tee Wednesday after a few days of inaction. But he was still unable to take part in extended spring training activities and remains listed as day to day.

The 24-year-old speedster was off to a sluggish start to the season before being placed on the DL. He's hitting just .195/.233/.244 with no homers and four stolen bases over 11 games.

There is some good news, however, as Bollinger reported that Buxton's migraines have subsided.
