Cabrera's double erased as Mets start game batting out of order
The New York Mets' struggling offense got off to an embarrassing start to Wednesday's game.
Asdrubal Cabrera stroked a double in the first inning, but was then ruled out after Cincinnati Reds manager Jim Riggleman indicated to the umpiring crew that the Mets had batted out of order.
After some additional confusion in the second inning, things were eventually clarified. Wilmer Flores hit second but was supposed to be hitting third according to the lineup card. Cabrera was hitting third, who was supposed to be second. Cabrera's double would not stand per the official scorer and he was considered 0-for-0. Because of the team batting out of order, No. 4 hitter Jay Bruce was ruled out without even getting to come to the plate and is 0-for-1. Bruce was officially ruled out by a catcher's put out.
Cabrera would bat second to start the third inning and drive in the first run of the game.
