Washington Nationals catcher Matt Wieters underwent surgery to repair his injured left hamstring on Wednesday, the team announced, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports.

The Nationals will provide more details about the injury once Wieters returns to the club and is evaluated by its medical staff.

The catcher pulled up during a game on May 10 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain a day later.

Wieters was hitting .231/.342/.385 with three home runs and seven RBIs prior to the injury.

Washington has used Pedro Severino behind the dish during Wieters' absence.
