Boston Red Sox backup catcher and utility man Blake Swihart requested a trade last week, but teams looking to get a bargain have been given a rude awakening.
"(It's) hard to find a trade partner when you're asking for some of (a) team's best prospects," one talent evaluator from a team who has contacted the Red Sox regarding Swihart told Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston.
According to Drellich, people familiar with the trade discussions are critical of Boston's unreasonable asking price for Swihart - a player who is looked upon as the odd man out when Dustin Pedroia makes his impending return from a rehab assignment.
Swihart, 26, is not far removed from being considered a highly touted prospect in the Red Sox system, but has remained blocked at the major-league level. The switch-hitter has appeared in 17 games this season and owns a .133/.212/.167 slash line over 33 plate appearances.
Due to the Red Sox using Sandy Leon and Christian Vazquez behind the dish, Swihart has been forced to play the majority of his time in left field while making a couple appearances at first base.
