Son of Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez announces Giants call-up

The San Francisco Giants are going to call up the son of a baseball legend to their big-league squad.

Dereck Rodriguez, the son of Hall of Fame catcher Ivan Rodriguez, announced on his Instagram that he recently received word of the promotion. The team hasn't made the move official as of yet.

The younger Rodriguez, 25, entered professional baseball as an outfielder but converted to pitching in 2013 with the Minnesota Twins.

The Giants signed him to a minor-league deal this past offseason and through nine starts with Triple-A Sacramento, he owns a 4-1 record with a 4.29 ERA in 50 1/3 innings.

Any action for San Francisco would be his first time pitching in the show.
