Report: Bumgarner's season debut coming Tuesday
Welcome back, MadBum!
Madison Bumgarner, the San Francisco Giants ace who's missed the entire season because of a fractured pinkie finger in his pitching hand, will make his 2018 debut Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Bumgarner suffered the injury in spring training after taking a comebacker off the hand.
The 28-year-old southpaw posted a 4-9 record with a 3.32 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 17 starts for the Giants in 2017.
San Francisco's rotation has dealt with some injury problems this season. On top of not having Bumgarner, the Giants have also been without Johnny Cueto, who is on the 60-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, and Jeff Samardzija, who is on the 10-day DL with right shoulder tightness.
Pitcher Dereck Rodriguez, the son of Hall of Fame catcher Ivan Rodriguez, is expected to take Samardzija's rotation spot during what should be a brief stint on the DL, Morosi adds.
