Philadelphia Phillies slugger Rhys Hoskins apologized for jawing with a fan Monday night following his sixth-inning strikeout at Citizens Bank Park, admitting he was "in the wrong" for the testy exchange.
"It shouldn't happen, it can't happen," Hoskins told Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic following his club's 4-2 loss to the New York Yankees. "I was in the wrong."
Hoskins, who went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in the loss, added that he couldn't remember what the fan said to tick him off, nor could he recall precisely what he said back.
Video of the incident appeared to show Hoskins - who didn't immediately break for first on a dropped third strike - telling a fan seated above the Phillies' dugout to "go home." Moments later, Hoskins emerged from the dugout to continue jawing at the fan.
"You want to go hit?" Hoskins appeared to say. "Go hit."
