Atkins sees 'no reason' why Osuna wouldn't pitch after suspension
When Roberto Osuna's suspension ends in August, the Toronto Blue Jays fully expect their club's closer to resume pitching for them.
"We are getting a closer on August 4," general manager Ross Atkins told Mike Wilner of Sportsnet prior to Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers. "Roberto Osuna is our closer. I see no reason why he wouldn't be."
Osuna was given a 75-game ban last week for violating the league's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy. It was backdated to May 8 - when Osuna was first placed on Major League Baseball's restricted list - making the right-hander eligible to return after August 4.
In early May, Osuna was arrested and charged with assault. The 23-year-old was released by police and given a June 18 court date. Osuna wasn't required to appear in court personally and did not, though his representatives said their client intends to plead not guilty.
His next court date is scheduled for July 9.
