Report: Blue Jays shopping suspended closer Osuna

Toronto Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna is eligible to return from a 75-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy Aug. 4, but which club he pitches for when he returns could be in question.

The Blue Jays are reportedly shopping Osuna ahead of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale.

Osuna was an All-Star in 2017 and is one of the best young closers in the majors. He posted a 2.93 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings this season before he was arrested and charged with domestic assault May 8.

Complicating any potential trade is the fact that Osuna's court case is still ongoing, with his next hearing scheduled for Aug. 1. His lawyer said last month that Osuna intends to plead not guilty.

The 23-year-old was transferred to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday to continue his rehab assignment after becoming eligible to pitch in the Jays' minor-league system July 14. Osuna has two more years of arbitration eligibility after this season before he hits free agency in 2021.
