With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the Tampa Bay Rays were busy Wednesday.

After dealing pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to the Boston Red Sox earlier in the day, Tampa shipped right-hander Matt Andriese to the Arizona Diamondbacks for catching prospect Michael Perez and minor-league pitcher Brian Shaffer, according to a team announcement.

Andriese has been a versatile hurler for the Rays this season, appearing in 27 games - four starts - posting a 4.07 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 59 2/3 innings

The 28-year-old has logged more than two innings of work in 20 appearances during the 2018 campaign and owns a career-best 8.9 strikeouts per nine.

Perez is a 25-year-old Puerto Rican catcher who was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2011 draft. During 58 games for Triple-A Reno, he's recorded a .284/.342/.417 slash line with 29 RBIs, and has strong defensive tools behind the plate, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

The 21-year-old Shaffer was ranked as the No. 23 prospect in Arizona's system, according to MLB Pipeline.

He was 7-5 with a 2.70 ERA and 1.08 WHIP for Single-A Kane County before the trade, and is considered a "good strike-thrower" who touches 94 mph with his fastball, according to Pipeline.

In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks designated veteran swingman Randall Delgado for assignment.
