Report: Eric Chavez emerges as favorite to replace Angels' Scioscia
The Los Angeles Angels will have a decision to make when manager Mike Scioscia's contract expires at the end of this season. If they choose to replace their longtime skipper, it appears they have a favorite in mind.
Former Gold Glove third baseman and current Angels special assistant Eric Chavez has emerged as the front-runner to replace Scioscia, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports.
Scioscia, who was reportedly expected to step down after the season, recently said he'd like to manage the Angels in 2019.
Chavez retired from baseball midway through the 2014 season and was hired by the Angels as a special assistant to general manager Billy Eppler in 2015.
The 40-year-old won six consecutive Gold Gloves for the Oakland Athletics from 2001-06, ending his career with a .268/.342/.475 slash line accompanied by 260 home runs and 902 RBIs.
