Clayton Kershaw surrendered a trio of home runs over seven innings and earned the loss as the Boston Red Sox won Game 5 to clinch the 2018 World Series at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.

The gut-wrenching loss could represent Kershaw's final game as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, as the ace possesses an opt-out clause in his contract this offseason.

The left-hander has $65 million remaining on his current contract, which will last through 2020 if he chooses not to opt out.

The Red Sox took an early two-run lead courtesy of a home run from Steve Pearce that cashed in Andrew Benintendi during the first inning. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez added solo shots of their own in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.

Despite persistent speculation and questioning, Kershaw has remained silent over his intentions this offseason.

The 30-year-old is coming off one of his most disappointing seasons since being drafted by the Dodgers in the first round of the 2006 draft. Making 26 starts, Kershaw authored a 2.73 ERA and 3.19 FIP over 161 1/3 innings. The three-time Cy Young winner and 2014 NL MVP owns a 153-69 record and 2.39 ERA over 316 career starts.
